Overview
MeluXina-AI is Luxembourg's new AI-optimized supercomputer, selected as one of the first seven European 'AI Factories' under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking initiative . The supercomputer is equipped with more than 2,100 GPU-AI accelerators and will deliver multi-exaflop AI computational power to train and fine-tune specialized and optimized AI models . It will be hosted and operated by LuxProvide, the same organization that operates Luxembourg's existing MeluXina supercomputer, and will be located in Bissen, Luxembourg, adjacent to its predecessor .
The Luxembourg AI Factory (L-AIF) is a collaborative effort involving LuxProvide, Luxinnovation (the national innovation agency), the Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS), the University of Luxembourg, and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) . MeluXina-AI will serve as a national strategic asset with 50% of computing capacity reserved for the EuroHPC network and European countries, and 50% dedicated to national needs . The project received €60 million in funding from the Luxembourg State .
The AI Factory will provide startups, SMEs, and researchers with comprehensive support including access to AI-optimized HPC resources, training, and technical expertise . It will actively lead and develop the AI journey of early-stage startups, scaleups, and SMEs with a focus on finance, space, cybersecurity, and the green economy . The facility is intended to create a robust and interconnected network of AI hubs across Europe, acting as a one-stop-shop for AI innovation, and will be deployed in 2025 alongside other AI Factories in Germany, Spain, Finland, Greece, Italy, and Sweden .
